My updated LinkedIn profile, connect with me! This first week in Paris has been a whirlwind of adjustments and discoveries. Tonight, with a quiet cough (finally!), I'm catching up on my experiences through dictation. Laundry Mishaps and Unexpected Kindness Let's start with laundry. My first encounter with the washing machine involved a language barrier and a forgotten detergent note. Luckily, a friendly neighbor (with some broken English and even more patience) helped me decipher the machine and its built-in detergent dispenser. While the lack of familiar laundry scent has me a little worried, a re-wash with my own detergent is on the agenda for tomorrow. Battling Sinusitis in a Tiny Apartment The past week brought another challenge - a nasty bout of sinusitis. Confined to my cozy (and thankfully, easy-to-clean) apartment, I battled postnasal drip and a relentless cough. Antibiotics, unfortunately, seem to be the only answer, but at least tomorrow marks the end of the five-day course. Connecting with Family and Friends Across the Miles Despite the illness, there were bright spots. A text exchange with friends led to a much-needed decluttering session of old messages. Reconnecting with an old acquaintance sparked by the trip felt wonderful. Catching up with my sister about her solo adventure in Puerto Rico filled me with pride. Exploring the Neighborhood: A Melting Pot of Cultures A walk through my neighborhood revealed its multicultural charm. From Middle Eastern and African restaurants, a hammam, to modern architecture, it's a vibrant mix. The modern architecture sometimes makes it feel distinct from the iconic Parisian image, but I have yet to venture deep into the neighborhoods to see the charm of the older homes. Back to School Jitters and Embracing the Challenge Tomorrow brings the first day of class. Juggling rusty study habits, the challenges of spoken French, and the excitement of a new routine feels like a return to the "office life" I haven't experienced in years. Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places While waiting for laundry, a detour to LinkedIn resulted in profile updates and a foray into inspiring blogs on fashion and sustainability. This unexpected detour reminded me of the joy of discovery and the potential to become a "shopping partner" for friends. Looking Forward: Embracing Every Parisian Night As I wind down for the night, I'm hopeful. This nightly journaling habit will hopefully capture the essence of my Parisian adventure, one experience at a time.
