Salut! Ça va? I’ve just come through a whirlwind week, and let me tell you, it was a mix of chaos, excitement, and relief! My cousin flew in from Copenhagen, and I couldn’t have been happier to see her. She jumped right in to help me move from my student apartment in Bagnolet to a friend’s home in the chic west side of Paris. With classes still going and the August heat wearing me down, I was juggling exhaustion and anticipation all at once. The week felt like a Parisian dance between packing, attending classes, and hauling my life’s treasures—four suitcases and a yellow one from Marrakech that once carried my cherished Moroccan rugs. Moving in Paris isn’t just about logistics; it’s a journey filled with reflection, change, and the reminder that sometimes, the simplest help—like a cousin arriving at just the right time—can feel like the greatest luxury of all. I’ll miss my little Parisian gem, La Vie Claire, the local organic market that became my go-to for delicious, guilt-free snacks. Those fresh finds were our secret weapons, fueling us through every box packed and every step of the move. It’s places like this, tucked into the heart of the city, that make everyday moments feel a bit more special—and a bit more Parisian. The Drawing Hotel is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience. We enjoyed delicious wine from Fontenille while chatting with the friendly staff in this art-filled boutique hotel. The wine and liquor selection process here is thoughtfully curated, prioritizing quality and unique regional flavors that perfectly complement the hotel’s artistic vibe. From coworking spaces to the rooftop, each sip feels like a celebration of Parisian taste and creativity. Eminente Rum brought a taste of Cuba to Paris during our cocktail hour at the Drawing Hotel. With its rich, smoky flavor profile and hints of caramel and spice, it was the perfect companion as we relaxed in the chic coworking space. The spirit captures the essence of Cuban craftsmanship, adding a touch of exotic elegance to our evening. Now, let’s shift to our too-short trip to Nice—just four days and three nights, but somehow it never feels like enough, does it? With my busy schedule since moving to France and jumping into language school on day one, this little escape was exactly what I needed. My cousin, escaping Copenhagen’s cold, was ready for sun, tans, and some heat, while I preferred the shade of a cabana. We indulged in fresh seafood, and though I missed out on trying the Red Velvet cake at “The American Bakery,” the vibrant flavors of Nice more than made up for it. It was a sunny reminder of why breaks, even short ones, are so essential. This oil, infused with herbs and pepper, brought an incredible spicy punch that was both bold and delicious. We loved it with our charcuterie and pizza, adding a bold, flavorful touch to every bite. FADA beer captures the vibrant essence of the South of France, with every sip reflecting the golden beaches and picturesque charm of Provence. A favorite among locals and visitors alike, this craft brew is the perfect companion for a warm day on the French Riviera, offering a taste of authentic Provencal flair in every glass. Moules frites (mussels and French fries) are a beloved classic in the South of France. They capture the region's love for fresh, simple, and flavorful ingredients, often cooked in white wine, garlic, and herbs. Sometimes, you can also get the mussels cooked with tomatoes, which makes it richer in flavor. I love the casual elegance of this dish; it's comforting and satisfying for people who love seafood. Nestled atop the hill in Cagnes-sur-Mer, Château Grimaldi is a captivating blend of history, art, and breathtaking scenery. Originally a medieval fortress, this chateau was transformed into an art museum that now houses an eclectic mix of works ranging from contemporary art to classic pieces from the 20th century. Each room tells a different story, with themes spanning from local artists inspired by the Mediterranean to avant-garde sculptures and surrealist paintings. The variety of artworks reflects the rich, diverse influences that have shaped the region, making it a fascinating stop for any art lover. My cousin wanted to explore this hidden gem after a shopping moment at Cap3000, where I picked up a chic blue dress that felt ideally suited for the day. I had packed so poorly! This was definitely the first time I packed without enough clothes, no edge control, and no lotion. #dontjudgeme We took the local bus, a 45-minute ride through the hills. With this ride, you get to see what local life in the mountains would be like. Château Grimaldi’s art collection surprised us—every piece felt distinct, and we wondered why it was built and now a museum. The artwork really varied (see below). The installation with Miles Davis was so unexpected. Once we were outside, I couldn’t resist experimenting with taking photos against the castle’s historic backdrop. After wandering through the castle and soaking in the diverse art, we ended our visit with a glorious dinner at a nearby restaurant, where the view of the city below was nothing short of spectacular. There’s something magical about dining with the chateau in the background, knowing it has stood the test of time, just like the art it now holds. Have you ever found a hidden gem that surprised you? Château Grimaldi was that perfect mix of discovery, culture, and style wrapped up in an unforgettable day. Some of the artwork at Château Grimaldi. The best way to finish this post is with some sunny pics of the beach and ice cream!
